About CircleCrop

Updated

CircleCrop does one job: it turns a photo into a round picture, ready for a profile, a sticker or a logo. It is free, needs no account and puts no watermark on the file, and your photo never reaches our servers.

What CircleCrop is

You choose a photo, frame it inside the circle, add a ring or a background color if you want one, and save a PNG, WebP or JPEG. PNG and WebP keep the corners outside the circle transparent, so the picture shows as a clean circle wherever transparency is kept.

Why it exists

Cropping a photo into a circle should take a few seconds. Too often it means creating an account, waiting for an upload, or downloading a small file with a logo stamped on it. CircleCrop does the whole job on your own device, at the full size of your crop, with nothing to sign up for.

How it works

Your photo is opened, cropped and made into a file inside your browser tab, and it never reaches our servers. If you open it from, or save it to, Google Drive or Dropbox, your browser exchanges it directly with that service.

Opening the photo

The file you pick, take with the camera, drop or paste is read by the page itself. CircleCrop opens JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP and other formats (AVIF where your browser opens it), turns the photo upright and checks that your device has the memory to edit it.

Cropping and saving

The crop, the ring and the background are drawn by your browser, and the finished file is made there too. When you save, the file goes straight from the page to your device or to the app you share it with.

Opening a photo from a link

If you paste the address of an image, your browser downloads it directly from that address. CircleCrop never fetches it for you, so the photo does not pass through any server of ours.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while you crop a photo, and you will see that no request carries it to us. Visits are counted on our server, and the page reports only failures, without cookies and with no stored IP address. The privacy policy describes the little the site does send, and why.

Who makes it

CircleCrop is an independent project, built and kept running by one independent developer in Brazil. When this site says "we", it means that developer, who reads every message.

How it pays for itself

CircleCrop is free and needs no account, and advertising is how it will pay for itself. When ads run, they sit on the page around the tool, never on your picture, and the file you save carries no mark. What advertising may collect, and the choice you have, is in the privacy policy.

Write to support@circlecrop.app for help, feedback or a bug. If a photo does not open, tell us its format, its rough size and the browser you use; a screenshot of the message helps more than the photo itself.
